Friday Reflections is all about reflecting on the week by observing our senses. My hope is that this will be a gentle, easy way to tune into how we are doing and what we are experiencing weekly when journaling in general can feel so daunting.
Now, for this week’s Friday Reflections (with each sense as your inspiration, consider how experiencing it impacted your week).
Here is my sensory round-up for this week:
tasting :: french toast, boiled eggs, toast, apples, cucumbers, carrots, raw broccoli, sweet potato mash, veggie lasagna, a soft serve ice cream cone, hot chocolate.
hearing :: my students laugh, Happy discussing all his thoughts as we walk to school, cheering parents at soccer games, thoughtful parents at our Back to School kick-off for Circle de Luz.
smelling :: maple syrup, just the slightest, most subtle hint of fall air.
seeing :: so many firsts. Happy’s first day of school, first soccer match, first lost teeth (that happened together as Happy’s permanent teeth were coming in and, yet, his baby teeth weren’t quite ready to go so we had to hit the dentist chair to get the two bottom teeth removed to make way for his new ones) and the subsequent throwing of the teeth on the roof as a nod to Ethiopian tradition (there is no tooth fairy in Ethiopia. You throw your teeth on the roof in the direction of where you were born– we threw East towards Ethiopia- and chant a little song: Birdie, Birdie, I give you my teeth, you give me your teeth. Right after we went inside, Happy said, “wait, I want my teeth back!”). Lots of memorable moments this week.
feeling :: pooped. Big week this week– our Circle de Luz back to school meeting was on Sunday with our hijas and their parents and that is always a big deal, a big ole’ stack of papers to grade (they were fabulous papers, happily!), the launch of our September The Healthy, Happy, Sane Teacher class, review of the new hijas nominated for Circle de Luz, drafting of that curriculum I am writing for a medical school, a Circle de Luz board meeting, and a sinus infection to boot. Eager to lay low this weekend and rest.
wishing/hoping :: for a sweet, easy weekend filled with lots of lovely moments with my boys.
What about you? What were your sensational experiences this week? Please share!
