The Mane Event Offers Women a Chance to Share About Hair

Charlotte, NC – From Marie Antoinette’s towering beehive to Whoopie Goldberg’s dreadlocks, hair has always been an essential part of a woman’s personal and cultural identity. In an effort to explore this and gain understanding in a fun and light-hearted manner, Crossroads Charlotte and the Women’s Inter-Cultural Exchange will host The Mane Event, a small-group discussion for women about hair.

A panel of diverse Charlotte area women will share their stories, and then the group will explore cultural differences through talking about hair care routines and experiences.

Panelists will be Lashawnda Becoats, Style editor of QCityMetro.com; Sara Ellington Behnke, co-author of “The Must-Have Mom Manual”; Melissa Harris, slam poet; Marcia Merrill, co-chair of WIE; Rosie Molinary, author of “Beautiful You” and Anna Sison, a WIE board member. The moderator is Crystal Dempsey, former Observer Style editor.
