Reading and writing were my first loves. They were the tools I used to learn about the world and create my own world. In my books, I strive to use stories and insight to support your own discoveries.
Hijas Americanas: Beauty, Body Image, and Growing Up Latina is a provocative account of the inner struggles and triumphs of Latin American women in the United States as we are forced to reconcile two realities: that identity, beauty, and womanhood within our homes are largely defined by our ethnic culture and parents’ upbringings, while identity, beauty, and womanhood outside our homes are defined by American culture- often presenting us with two very different standards. This empathetic ethnography features the voices of hundreds of women and offers a portrait of the young Latina experience, detailing how growing up American and Latina affects who one becomes and how she gets there.
Beautiful You: A Daily Guide to Radical Self-Acceptance gently guides women to treat their whole selves well by breaking undermining habits of self-criticism, realizing profound self-acceptance, and championing their own emotional and physical well-being.
