Friday Reflections is all about reflecting on the week by observing our senses. My hope is that this will be a gentle, easy way to tune into how we are doing and what we are experiencing weekly when journaling in general can feel so daunting.
Now, for this week’s Friday Reflections (with each sense as your inspiration, consider how experiencing it impacted your week).
Here is my sensory round-up for this week:
tasting :: a hotdog and Frozen Minute Maid Lemonade during a rainy baseball game and the most incredible Farmer’s Market fresh meal (we are talking Fried Green Tomatoes, Gazpacho, Peach Salsa, a Summer Veggie Tart, etc) courtesy of a cooking class I took with Nikki Moore of Food Love.
hearing :: water splashing as Happy completed his inaugural triathlon as part of his Triathlon day camp, the cacophony of summer bugs singing the world to sleep.
smelling :: horse feed, the guys at the lumberyard smoking before clocking into work as I run by, the divine fragrance of a garlic clove broken open.
seeing :: a beautiful silver horse taking large gulps of water from a hose while I gave him a cool down, a chipmunk skittering out of the garden, a fox sitting in the middle of the road in front of my house- coyly licking his paws while gazing at me- when I was leaving for a run, a little golden spider taking down a big ole’ emerald beetle, lightning bugs (and showing them to Happy for the first time!).
feeling :: so much. I am overwhelmingly empathetic and this was the sort of week where the things that leave my system splayed open piled up and on and left me feeling emotionally raw over and over and over again. If I could just go into a cool, dark closet and rest in child’s pose for a few days, I’d be all better.
wishing/hoping :: for a lovely, easy week next week as Happy and I embark on what we’ve been calling Mommy Camp. A whole week of adventures!
What about you? What were your sensational experiences this week? Please share!
