Every six months or so, my book club sits down and selects our next line-up of books. We’re a pretty laid back book club and when we gather we tend to talk more about our lives than our books (we usually get towards the end of our meal together and someone says, “Oh yeah, the book. What did you think?”). Anyway, Tuesday night was book club selection night. We gathered over exquisite vegetarian cuisine at Fern in Charlotte (if you are local and haven’t been there, GO. I had the tribal tacos, and they were ridiculously good. I mean absurdly delicious. As more of an aside, we typically gather at a member’s house for dinner but we had a lot of different logistics to work around for Tuesday’s get together so we went with a restaurant that was in a convenient spot for everyone’s comings and goings), and we did our picking.
The way our picking shakes down is that we (there are 6 of us) each come with suggestions for our reading list. It used to be that our rules were only paperback books and books less than 400 pages. We’ve since sorta dropped those rules and anything goes. This time, after our master list compilation and discussion, we had 19 suggestions for six spots. Ooops. To manage that a little bit, we each eliminated one book that we had no interest in reading. That took us down to a more manageable number so then we each voted for our choices and, ultimately, came up with 7 options. So, here we go, what’s on our book club’s current reading list:
thanks for posting. i just ran out of fiction to read, and was looking for some good recommendations. Our book club is meeting this Sunday and it would be great to have some books to suggest.
