You might recall that on October 23 I made the commitment to track my beauty spending in a post called The Price of Beauty. I figured the best way to update you here is to do a pose once a month so here is this months’ beauty spending and some observations.
October 2011 Spending $12.89 (curling iron)
November 2011 Spending $31 (eyebrow wax, shampoo and conditioner)
What I’ve noticed is that just making the conscious commitment to track my spending has changed my spending. I don’t know that I would have purchased a whole lot more this month but I do know that I would have spent a whole lot more on my shampoo and conditioner if I weren’t tracking it. I am not much of a shopper and I get overwhelmed with a lot of offerings so my default is to do the easiest thing possible which, truth be told, is buying what my hairdresser uses because I see that it works when I am at the salon to get my hair cut. Except buying what my hairdresser uses means that I am paying a pretty penny for shampoo and conditioner. So, this time, when my shampoo and conditioner were heading towards empty, I kept an eye out for some recommendations and found a huge bottle of $4.99 shampoo and a huge bottle of $4.99 conditioner. They work for my hair but I might try to see if I can find a bit greener purchases for my next go round as I am not so sure how kind my purchase is to the environment. That’ll be the balance for me, I think, finding affordable earth-friendly products.
