So, Michelle Icard of the very parenting and tween/ teen friendly Michelle in the Middle site, is hosting a back to school Twitter Party and you so need to attend.
Wondering what Michelle’s hopes are for the party? Well, here is what she has to say:
My hopes for this Twitter party I’m hosting are that:
a) People will show up.
b) The people who show up are able to connect with their own ideas and those of others in a way that excites and motivates them about all the possibilities for them this year.
For those of you who have never been to a Twitter party, here is how it works:
1) Log onto Twitter at the party time. In this case, August 22nd at 8pm EST.
2) Every twitter party has a “special code”, aka hashtag, for participants to use so they can carry on a conversation. Our hashtag is #schoolrelief. Every time you type a comment during the party, finish by pasting #schoolrelief at the end of your comment.
3) Over the course of the hour, I’ll ask about 6 or 7 questions. Each time I ask a question I’ll label it Q1, Q2, etc. Each time you answer, you’ll label it A1, A2 etc. A twitter party conversation might look like this:
@michelleicard Q1: What are you most looking forward to about school starting? #schoolrelief
@momofthree A1: I can’t wait for my kids to get out of the house so I can secretly throw out most of those art projects they did this summer #schoolrelief
@lovetolearn A1: I’m ready to tackle some major projects I put off like finally getting that writing proposal done. #schoolrelief
@crazycakes A1: I’ve been missing the barn. Once the kids are in school and the heat drops, I’m riding again! #schoolrelief
4) When you open up Twitter, you’ll need to find our party. To do that, do a search on Twitter for our hashtag #schoolrelief. You’ll see the results in list format and you can save them to read back over later because the pace can be fast. Once you do the search, you’re at the party! Easy as that.
5) When you do a search you can’t actually send out your tweets from that screen, so I kept two Twitter windows open on my computer. The first one I kept on the Twitter main page so I could send out my tweets from there and the second I kept on the hashtag search results so I could follow the conversation. It was easy to toggle between the two windows.
6) At the end of the hour I’ll draw names for some fun #schoolrelief prizes and we’ll call it a wrap.
At my first and only Twitter party, like at most parties, I felt a little tentative at first, but soon warmed up to the crowd and even began having side conversations with other women whose comments moved me or made me laugh. So don’t worry about what to wear or who you’ll know. It’s fun, easy, and comfortable. Just pour yourself a cup of tea or glass of wine, bar the door, and enjoy a little time for yourself.
So join the fun on August 22nd, 8 pm EST. We’ll save you a seat at the computer.
See you there!
