Whenever a line catches my eye while reading a magazine, I rip the page out and put it in an Inspiration file. The other night I went through the file and compiled some of the inspiring one (or a few) liners.
In the December 2010 issue of O, the Oprah Magazine, Helen Mirren said the best shortcut to feeling beautiful “has nothing to do with clothing or makeup. Just put your shoulders back and chin up, and face the world with pride.”
In the December 2010 issue of O, the Oprah Magazine, Marianne Williamson said, “a miracle is something inside you… a change in the way you think or feel.”
In the April 2011 issue of O, the Oprah Magazine, Sharon Olds, a poet who contributes to that month’s The Power of a Poem feature, is asked to finish this sentence “One Word That Brings Me Joy…” and answers with, “Acceptance. It’s a wonderful antidote to the self-destructive, overly critical voice we all have within us.”
In the February 2011 issue of Shape, 82 year-old Marian Seldes said, ” I’ve come the realization that confidence has nothing to do with what you look like. If you obsess over that, you’ll end up being disappointed in yourself all the time. Instead, high self-esteem comes from how you feel in any moment. So walk into a room with your shoulders thrown back acting like you’re in charge, and spend your energy on making the people around you happy. Giving confidence to others will come back to you and you’ll end up feeling better about yourself.”
In the May 2011 issue of O, the Oprah Magazine, Aisha Tyler says, “Enjoy the love of others, but revel in the love of yourself. Don’t wait for someone else to save you.”
In the May 2011 issue of O, the Oprah Magazine, Cristina Carlino, the creator of the beauty brand Philosophy says, “A woman who smiles often and shows enthusiasm for life projects youthfulness no matter what age she is.”
