What’s the secret? I am often asked. What’s the secret to body image happiness?
And here is my answer: achieving body image happiness is not about standing in front of the bathroom mirror chanting affirmations. It is about stepping away from the bathroom mirror and into a life that is so expansive and meaningful that you recognize that the length of your hair, the width of your nose, the curve of your calves, and/or whatever happens to be the thing or things you are consumed by are not that significant in the grander scheme of things. Changing your mind so that you begin to understand that what mattters is how you engage the world, not the way you look doing it, is one of the most important things you can do on your quest to a healthier sense of self and greater self awareness. Step away from the mirror. Step into the life of your imagining – give the world your gifts while you receive her riches, and you’ll notice that your mind begins to change.
This striking video from The Body Image Project (a movement to reframe body image and enable everyone, everywhere, to discover and celebrate the real you) shares these powerful words:
It’s not about how your body look. It’s about how you look at your body. It’s all about how you look at it and the level of importance you give to it, so I stopped giving it so much importance.

Changing your mind takes a long time but beginning to change your mind simply takes a decision. Today, decide to change your mind about your body. You do not need to be different to enjoy and engage in life. You simply need to begin.
