So close and yet so far away. Those seven words describe exactly where things stand with me and the book right now. So close to being done and yet those five pages that stand between me and THE END, well, the words for them are moving towards me like quick sand. And then there is the editing and the introduction and the reader’s guide and… well, you get the picture. So close and yet so far away.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Happy Candelas’s sign language is taking off. For months, I signed “all done” when he was done with a meal. Nothing. But then, just a couple weeks ago, I said “We’re all done” at the grocery store– a place where I never ever say that- and he looked up at me and very matter of factly did the sign for all done. You go, Happy Candelas. And now he is signing “more” like you wouldn’t believe. This picture? I had shredded cheese and gave him his first bite of that delicacy and then he couldn’t help but ask for more of it (which I completely understand). That’s Lola next to him. She wanted more, too. Now, we’re working on eat, drink, and help in sign. By we, I mean the baby. Not Lola. She’s smart but not that flexible.
5 pages. Will they materialize on Monday? Hmmm, we’ll see. I am also hoping the introduction will materialize and the editting of at least 5 pages. This in the 2 free hours I have while baby’s at the sitter. You can’t see me right now but I am desperately signing the word help. Just saying.
