NPR Story on Listening to Latinas
Our mission with Circle de Luz is to empower young Latians by supporting and inspiring them in the pursuit of thier possibilities through extensive mentoring, programming, and scholarship funds for further education. Our work is critical because Latina girls are dropping out at a rate of 41% and only 10% of Latinas finish cllege. Latinas face the most significant gender and ethnic discrimination and struggle with such low self-esteem that they have the highest attempted suicide rate. Our work with these girls is not just critical but especially timely. A new study was recently released about Latinas’ drop out rates and NPR did a story on it last week. Hope you’ll take a few minutes to listen to it because as we all become better informed, we become better equipped to address the needs of our communities.
And if you are in the Charlotte area, join us for a fun fundraiser for Circle de Luz on September 30 from 5:30-7:30 PM at the Ballantyne Hotel and Lodge. Skirt! After Work is a fun networking event sponsored by Skirt! magazine. Skirt! has chosen Circle de Luz as the benefactor for that evening. $2 of every peach and cranberry-flavored Silk Skirts will go directly to our programming. Hope to see you there!
This is AMAZINGGG!!!!!!! 😀 I know so many young latinas that would appreciate all of this !! 🙂 I will def pass along 🙂
