Lots of things happening with Circle de Luz in the last week so I thought I’d give an update:
1. We received official non-profit status for the IRS. Organizations attempting to become non-profits aren’t always granted that status on their first application so we really sweated our application. The time and energy paid off. We received notice on Friday that our first attempt was a charm!
2. We updated the Our Daughters’ Voices video to reflect the latest statistics available. It’s even more sobering now. We definitely want to be a catalyst in reversing that trend in the future.
3. Skirt Magazine gave Circle de Luz a plug in its August issue. Thank you (ps it’s one of my favorite magazines and book publishers so indulge yourself a whirl on the site)!
4. We have 48 women signed on as scholarship donors for the Class of 2014. They hail from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, New York, North Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, California, Washington, Oregon, Indiana, and Arizona and have committed $33,120. That will allow us to grant 6 scholarships to young ladies in the Class of 2014. We only need 4 more donors to create a 7th scholarship. Want to join?
