What I love about being Latina: I love everything. My brown skin, even though it is light. My brown hair, my brown eyes. My curvy body. I love my connection to all the Latino cultures. I love the way we move, the way we say things, the way we cook. I love the warmth provided by my Latino familia whether they are blood or ones I have found along the way.
What I love about being Americana: My freedom to dress how I want, to say what I want, to do what I want, to be who I want, to love who I want. I love the diversity I see when I leave my home. I love being able to take parts of different cultures and mold it into a style I love for myself.
My biggest challenge in growing up Latina in the US: I would have to say it is that I am a non-spanish speaking Latina. I am a several generation American and for whatever reason this was one part of our culture that was not passed down. I have been told that I am not a Latina because I was not born in a Latin country and I don’t even speak Spanish, but I disagree.
My biggest support in growing up Latina in US: My family!! I come from a long list of strong, Spanish women. They have taught me how to be tough and gentle. To love and nurture. To stand tall and proud. To give a helping hand but to take no sh*t!
Why I am beautiful: I am beautiful because I am Me. I always do what I feel is right. I fight against things that I feel are wrong even when it’s not easy. I make mistakes and I own them. I hold them high and I learn from them. I am beautiful because I am imperfect. I am beautiful because I am proud of who I am. I am beautiful because I love myself.
Very cool Sucia! I really dig the “beautiful” part!!! Rock on!

Profound words my friend. You will go far in life if you hold these ideals near.
