Girl Power Songs to Get Us Running

We recently received a grant to train the Circle de Luz girls for a 5k.  One of the things we want to do to support their running is create podcasts that will guide them through run/ walk pacing as they build endurance and those podcasts will also have music.  What songs do you suggest for a great girl power listening experience?  We want them to be upbeat, positive, with no messages of needing a boy to save you or being heartbroken over a boy, and appropriate for 7th through 9th graders.  We’d love your ideas from all music genres!

I always liked Natasha Bedingfield’s song Unwritten.

Eye of the Tiger and Chariots of Fire are running mix classics (though not particularly geared toward girl power).

“Miss Independent” by Christina Aguilera, “God is a DJ” by Pink, “If you think I’m Sexy” by Rod Stewart (always one of my favorite, fun workout songs), “Put your Records on” by Corrine Bailey Rae, “Glamorous” by Fergie, “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus, “Pocket Full of Sunshine” Natasha Bedingfield, “King of Anything” by Sara Bareilles, “We Live” by Superchick (REALLY good!!)

Okay, that’s all I have for now..I’ll keep brainstorming. 🙂
