What I love about being Latina: I love being able to experience more than one dimension of culture. Everything is more complex when you are exposed to boundaries outside of the cultural norm. I continually challenge ideas about what it means to be a Latina/Feminist. I am grateful for a growing language and literature in this country and feeling connected to alternative history.
What I love about being Americana: I am so proud to be part of the diverse cultural history in this country. I am grateful for the language that I learned here and the opportunities I have had because of it.
My biggest challenge in growing up Latina in America: Sometimes I feel like I am not sure which part of me belongs where. I get tired of trying to explain away stereotypes and having to be put into categories that are prejudicial and narrow. The immigration debate has brought a lot of racism and cultural ignorance to light.
My biggest support in growing up Latina in America: The best support I have had has come from my family.
Why I am beautiful: The energy I bring into the world. I am a passionate being that wants to create and bring the beauty of life to others.
