What I love about being Latina: My beautiful language and the wonderful customs and traditions. The Mexican community is very tight and we are known for being hospitable and charitable.
What I love about being Americana: My freedom and the opportunity to be successful and to accomplish personal goals. My biggest challenge in growing up Latina in America: The stereotypes that are placed on Mexicans. Teachers and people in general tend to have low expectations of children of Mexican descent. We are thought of as being lazy and only good for labor. I grew up not only Latina but I also grew up in one of the poorest communities in the United States. I have been underestimated and discriminated because of my ethnicity, my socio-economic status, my gender, and also my young age. However, I love when I prove them wrong!My biggest support in growing up Latina in America: My mother, my mother, my mother. She always pushed me to be the best I could be. She wanted me to get an education so I wouldn’t end up with some man and depend on him. She instilled in me great morals and values, the love for education, and the importance of giving love and helping others. Why I am beautiful: I am beautiful because I have a caring heart, I volunteer and care for others. I love kids, I am beautiful because I am generous and genuine. I am beautiful because I am happy and transmit my love for life to others.
