This Week's Hijas Events

Last week’s events were a blast.  The signing at RealEyes Bookstore was my first, and it was such a nice surprise to have people deliberately come out for it.  The radio interview on Wednesday morning made me want to be a radio personality—it’s such a cool medium.  I loved having Latinas calling in to share their experiences.  And though Friday night’s book launch quickly moved indoors after a random and fast torrential downpour, it was a real delight to share the book’s launch in the place that I call home.  The coffeehouse was jamming, the bookstore sold 82 books, and the food—provided by my generous friends and family members—was so abundant and delicious.  We had tostones, empanadas, churros, polvorones, guacamole, Josefinas, and many other great things.  By the way, you haven’t lived until you have had a Tres Leche cupcake (with fried plantain garnish) or a Mexican Chocolate with Espresso cupcake made by the talented Carly Orlando.  Holy cow.

Now speaking of Carly’s desserts is a perfect segue into my events for this week as I am bringing along some of her fare to my book signing events (because it is just rude not to share).  This week you can find Hijas on the radio with Keith Larson at 10:15 am EST on Monday, June 11.  You can listen live.        The Levine Museum of the New South in Charlotte is sponsoring a launch reading at 7 pm on Monday, June 11th.  Tuesday night, I’ll be signing books from 6-8 pm at The Book Rack in Rock Hill, South Carolina.  On Thursday, catch me on Fox News Rising on Charlotte’s Fox affiliate at 7 am, on Radio Lider at noon, and at the NorthLake Mall Borders at 7 pm.  Friday, I’ll be at the Waldenbooks in Concord from 12-3 pm.  So come on out, say hello, and get a book signed.  I can’t wait to meet you!

I do want to make it to Miami and Florida in general. Right now, I am thinking that will happen in the fall— sometime between September and November. I’ll keep you posted!
